Using a wooden wick candle

🕯️ Wooden wicks: how to light them and get the most out of them? 🪵

Wooden wick candles are becoming increasingly popular. And for good reason: they create a natural, soothing, and elegant ambiance. Their crackling sound is reminiscent of a campfire, and their flame is often warmer than that of a cotton wick.

But if you're here, it's probably because you've already experienced this frustrating moment: you light it… and the wick goes out almost immediately. Don't worry, it's perfectly normal! Wooden wicks simply require a little more skill.

In this article, we explain everything you need to know to achieve a perfect ignition 🌿✨

🍃 Why choose a wooden drill bit?

Wooden drill bits offer several advantages that make them both an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly choice:

  • 🌿 A gentle crackling sound, for an instantly relaxing atmosphere

  • 🌳 A natural and luminous flame

  • ✨ A modern and minimalist style that highlights the candle

  • 🌎 A sustainable option, without chemical treatment

They transform the atmosphere of a room in seconds 💛

🔥 How to properly light a wooden wick?

Unlike a cotton wick, wood takes a little longer to burn and requires a good start. Here are the essential steps:

1️⃣ Always trim the wick before lighting

Cut it to 3–5 mm .
A wick that is too long will not burn properly and may go out.

2️⃣ Keep the flame on the wick for a few seconds 🔥

Use a lighter and leave it on the wood for 5 to 10 seconds .
👉 The idea is to heat and start the combustion like a campfire.

3️⃣ Allow the wax to melt completely on the surface

When first lighting, burn the candle until the wax is melted from one edge of the container to the other.
This prevents a hole from forming around the drill bit (what is called the “tunnel”)

🌬️ If the wick goes out, what should I do?

Don't panic, this is common behavior at the beginning:

  • Wait until the wax hardens slightly

  • Remove any excess wax around the wick if it appears “drowned”.

  • Trim the strand a little bit ✂️

  • And turn it back on gently ✨

Sometimes it takes two or three tries before the wood stabilizes 🔥 Don't be afraid to leave the lighter flame on the wick 🪵

🍀 Tips for an optimal experience

  • Opt for a long lighter

  • Avoid drafts

  • Never let the candle burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

These small habits will protect your candle and prolong its lifespan 🌼
